Senior Management

The Bundesamt für Verfassungsschutz (BfV) is headed by Deputy Director General Dr Silke Willems and Deputy Director General Sinan Selen.

In addition, several organisational units directly support the senior management; they ensure an efficient internal task management, deal with parliamentary matters, and take care of press relations and external communications. The Chief Technology Officer (CTO), who is responsible for the overall management and development of intelligence technology and information technology within BfV, is also attached to the senior management.

Deputy Director General Sinan Selen

Sinan Selen has been Deputy Director General of BfV since January 2019. Before, he worked for the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), the Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) and the TUI group, among others.

He is in charge of counter-intelligence and cyber defence, Islamist extremism and Islamist terrorism, left-wing extremism/terrorism, foreign extremism (excluding Islamist extremism), measures pursuant to Article 10 of the Basic Law, internal security and surveillance.

Deputy Director General Dr Silke Willems

Dr Silke Willems has been Deputy Director General at BfV since 14 June 2023. Before, she was the head of BfV's Department for Foreign Extremism and Left-Wing Extremism/Terrorism.
